General tips before buying an electric bike
- Try many different electric bikes from different electric bike manufacturers. There is a big difference in how an electric bike is experienced. Does it feel strong enough on steep uphills? Is the power supply seamless or does it come in jerks? Does the e-bike feel steady and solid? Although general tests of electric bikes can give an indication of how the electric bike is being used, it is primarily you who will be using it.
- It is important to have access to good service even after the purchase of an electric bicycle. Does the workshop have a short waiting time for service and do they have parts for the engine and other components of your electric bike in stock at all times?
- The battery on electric bicycles is only stated in Wh. But there are other parameters that are at least as important, perhaps more important, for the battery's quality. Battery cells come in different qualities. Cells with Grade A are the cells with the best quality from the individual manufacturer. In addition, we have maximum continuous discharge (MD), which is measured in amperes, and is how much load the battery can withstand over time. If (MD) is lower than what the engine requires from the battery, wear will be very high. The most affordable e-bikes often have batteries that cannot withstand the engine's load over time. We use Grade A cells with a higher (MD) than what the engine requires, so that the batteries last well over time.
- An electric bicycle is a big investment. Therefore, as mentioned, we recommend trying many different e-bikes on steep slopes and that you spend plenty of time before investing in an e-bike. You are most welcome to try an electric bike with us.
